The Woodpecker i-Scan is a next-generation wireless imaging plate scanner designed to modernize dental radiography workflows. This phosphor storage plate (PSP) system converts image information stored on intraoral IP plates into high-resolution digital dental X-rays, displaying and editing images directly on the device’s built-in screen or on a connected computer . Cleared by the FDA for dental applications, the i-Scan is intended for use by licensed clinicians and authorized technicians for scanning and processing digital images exposed on IP imaging plates .

The i-Scan features a powerful 8-core CPU built on advanced 14nm FinFET LPC technology, with an FPGA used as a coprocessor to handle over 100 million data points for exceptionally smooth image processing . The 7-inch ultra-high-resolution capacitive touch screen (800 x 1280 pixels) allows dentists to obtain clearer diagnostic images and provides a high-quality interface that makes capturing and interpreting radiographs intuitive and efficient .

Wireless 5G WiFi connectivity enables instant image visualization on the i-Scan screen, computer, tablet, or smartphone, improving doctor-patient communication and diagnostic collaboration . The compact design occupies only 0.13m² of space and can be installed chairside, in a common room, or across multiple operatories . The i-Scan accepts four sizes of ultra-thin, flexible imaging plates (sizes 0, 1, 2, and 3) that are only 0.4mm thick and can be reused over 1000 times, significantly reducing consumable costs compared to conventional film .

The device utilizes advanced 25μm micro-spot laser scanning technology operating at 651-665nm wavelength, with an image uniformity of less than 2% for consistent diagnostic quality . Three scanning modes are available – quick scan (7 seconds), high-precision scan (10 seconds), and extremely precise scan (15 seconds) – allowing clinicians to balance speed and resolution based on clinical needs .
